Electricity was introduced in Dar in 1916 and running water introduced in 1918. Upon advent of tap water, water wells fell out of use. Motor vehicles were introduced in 1918. The local natives were vey peaceful and faithful people. Trade caravans went to Bagamoyo, Ujiji and Tabora mainly on foot. The new Imambara in Dar was built following efforts by Br Gulamhussein Virji who called upon the community for financial contributions. The first donors were Versi Advani, Rajabali Alidina, Alibhai Ebrahim, Daya Walji and Suleman Daya. The donors also helped collect contributions from the wider community.
