Brief Profile
In the annals of community service, there exist luminaries whose contributions stand as pillars of inspiration for generations to come. One such luminary is Haji Wallibhai Ramji, whose unwavering dedication and selfless commitment to the welfare of humanity were honoured with the prestigious Abbasi Medal. This recognition came during a ceremony held on October 28, 1965, where the then Chairman of Africa Federation Haji Muhamadalibhai Meghji, during his visit to Madagascar, bestowed the medal to Haji Wallibhai. During the citation ceremony, Haji Muhamadali Bhai expressed gratitude for Haji Saheb's exemplary services to the community, followed by a detailed account of his remarkable history.
Born in Lath Gondal, Rajkot, India in 1888, Haji Wallibhai embarked on his journey of service early in life. His travels from Porbandar by sea to Majunga in 1904 marked the beginning of a remarkable odyssey. Working for "Manjibhai Thawer and Sons" in Morondava for two years, he preserved the ethos of compassion and community spirit that would define his legacy.
Community Services
He steadfastly upheld his engagement in religious activities, consistently nurturing unity and brotherhood within the community through his unwavering faith. In 1934, he etched his name in history by constructing an Imambargha in Atongo, endowing it as a "Waqf" to the Jamaat, a facility that would ensure its perpetual service to future generations. Such was his dedication that during the collection of funds for the Africa Federation Foundation Fund from each and every member in 1959, Chairman of Africa Federation Marhum Ebrahim Sheriff was amazed to see the aged Haji Wallibhai serving the community despite his old age of 73, while also running his own business vigorously.
Such stalwarts like Haji Wallibhai were not only pioneers in their time but also catalysts for progress within the community. Their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts paved the way for the advancements we witness today. Their commitment to service, despite challenges and age, set a precedent for future generations to follow. Their contributions, whether through financial support or active participation, laid the foundation for the community's growth and prosperity. Their legacy of generosity and perseverance continues to shape the present landscape of our community, serving as a reminder of the values we hold dear. It is through their collective efforts that we stand poised at the threshold of a new era, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Transitioning of AKSIAM - Madagascar
Transitioning to the present, the elections held in Madagascar on February 4, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in the community's history. Originally known as The Jamaats under the Conseil Regional Des Khojas Shia Ithna-Asheri – Jamates De L’Ocean Indien (CROI) of Madagascar, significant changes were implemented in response to the new requirements of the Madagascar government. These changes included amendments to the constitution and a rebranding of the organization. Consequently, the new name, The Association Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri of Madagascar (AKSIAM), was adopted, signaling a fresh chapter in the community's journey. Alhaj Féride Ismael Djadawdjee's unopposed presidency of AKSIAM heralded a new era of leadership. Alhaj Feride Ismail officially took over as the President for the term 2023 – 2026 at the instatement ceremony that took place during the 1st Annual General Assembly of AKSIAM which The KSI Jamaat of Antananarivo had the honour to host from 28th to 29th April 2023 at KSIJ Imambargha in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The Chairman of Africa Federation Alhaj Amine Nassor and AFED Vice Chairman Alhaj Aunali Khalfan attended the General Assembly for the two days. The General Assembly brings together Presidents and delegates from 15 Jamaats of Madagascar and the invitees once every three years. During this occasion, the AKSIAM Executive Committee and its various boards present their reports/accounts for discussion and adoption by the delegates from these Jamaats. The two-day meeting also involves consultations and discussions between the Presidents of the Jamaats and AKSIAM Executive Management. The AKSIAM second Annual General Assembly was held on Friday 17th and 18th May 2024 in Antananarivo, which was attended by a delegation from Africa Federation headed by the Chairman Alhaj Amine Bhai Nassor. The road ahead for AKSIAM brims with promise and possibility. Guided by the timeless values of compassion, integrity, and inclusivity, the community stands united in its quest for a brighter tomorrow, honoring the legacy of those who came before while charting a course for generations yet to come.
- We pray to Allah (s.w.t) to amply reward all our past Leaders and community members who dedicated their services for the posterity of our community. Let us recite Sura-e-Fateha for the maghferah of the departed souls.
