The Africa Federation Secretariat received with deep sadness the news of the demise of Ayatullah Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi who passed away on Tuesday 9th January 2024 (26th Jamadi-ul-Aakhar 1445 A.H.) in Islamabad and was buried at Jamiatul Kausar, Islamabad on Wednesday 10th January 2024.

Ayatullah Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi hailed from the Gilgit Baltistan region where he began his educational journey which laid the foundation of his illustrious career. He travelled to the holy city of Najaf, Iraq in the 1960s to pursue religious studies and was a student of eminent scholars such as Ayatullah Sayyid Abul Qassim al-Khoei and Ayatullah Sayyid Baqir al-Sadr. After a decade of rigorous studies, he returned to Pakistan and dedicated himself to teaching and authored several books from his mastery in the interpretation of the Holy Quran, Islamic philosophy, and Ethics which includes the renowned "Al Kauthar fi Tafsir Al Quran” - a profound Urdu exegesis of the Quran that stands as one of the finest in the Shi'a tradition.

Life Journey

Ayatollah Sheikh Najafi spent most of his honorable life propagating the religion and serving the Mo’mineen in different spheres of life. His enduring efforts in promoting Islamic unity and spreading religious values shall always remain cherished. He was the revered Head of several seminaries in Pakistan and served as a special representative of late Ayatullah Sayyid Abul Qassim al-Khoei and later Ayatullah Sayyid Ali al-Hussaini al-Sistani in Pakistan.

The death of an eminent Ayatollah of such a high calibre is a big loss to the Shia Community around the globe. We pray to Allah (SWT) to raise his rank and place him in the closest proximity of Ahlulbayt (‘a) where he continuously receives the Mercy and Grace of Allah (SWT).

Africa Federation on behalf of all its member Jamaats extends heartfelt condolences to our Living Imam, Al-Mahdi (ATFS), the Marja-e-Taqleed, Ulema-e-Deen, Marhum’s family, his students and the Shia Community globally on this sad and irreplaceable loss of an eminent Aalim.

  • We request Momineen to remember Ayatullah Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi and all the Marhumeen with a Sura Al-Fateha for their maghferat.
