 After his death – AFED in memory of Marhum Zulfikar bhai named the Higher Education Loan Scheme as “ZAKMEF” - “Zulfikar Ali Khimji Memorial Education Fund” – The then Vice Chairman, Alhaj Ramzan Mulla Nanji of Nairobi who took over the AFED helm in 2004 played an important role in organizing fundraising and also initiating disposal of Afed old properties paving way for the purchase of income generating properties in Dar es Salaam whose income is utilized for the Higher Education Loan Scheme for eligible students, this Scheme continues with more and more students benefiting from it. The Higher Education Loan Scheme (HELP) was started with a small number of applicants in 2005 during the tenure of the legend Chairman of Africa Federation, Marhum Ebrahim Shariff Dewji and gaining momentum as the years progressed. The Scheme continues with its key focus and renewed impetus by AFED over the importance of this sector for both girls and boys of our community for their brighter future, and for their families.
