Legacy of Compassion & Selfless Services
For more than seven decades, Khairoonnissa bai selflessly dedicated herself to humanitarian causes, helping those in need. Whether it was providing aid to the underprivileged, offering solace to hospital patients and the disabled, supporting widows and orphans, attending to prisoners, or assisting those grappling with social and familial challenges, her acts of kindness were infused with genuine warmth, impacting countless lives. Khairoonnissa bai and her husband, Marhum Abdulhussein Molu, together established an enduring legacy closely intertwined with the Red Cross. Their significant contributions include the establishment of the Red Cross Centre in Moi Avenue and the coordination of numerous charitable initiatives.
Life Journey with a humanitarian mission
In the early 1950s, Abdulhussein bhai A. Molu, fondly known as A. A. Molu within the Red Cross community, embarked on a journey to raise funds for the British Red Cross Society in Mombasa. His dedication led him to become the esteemed Mombasa Branch Chairman of the Kenya Red Cross Services during the 1970s. During his chairmanship, Abdulhussein bhai solicited the invaluable assistance of his wife, Khairoonnissa bai, who served as Secretary within the organization. Khairoonnissa bai's involvement with the Red Cross mirrored her husband's dedication. She devoted herself not only to administrative duties but also to humanitarian work in refugee camps, women’s prisons, and juvenile rehabilitation centers. Notably, she advocated for improved conditions in prisons, spearheading initiatives such as better diets for inmates and providing cots for newborns born in jail. She also played a pivotal role in the establishment of a hospital within the Shimo La Tewa Borstal Institution in 1996, overcoming challenges through her tireless fundraising efforts.
In December 2002, her exceptional contributions were recognized when the then Kenyan Head of State, H.E. Daniel Arap Moi, honored her with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Civilian Division for her transformative efforts in enhancing prisoner welfare. Within the Red Cross, Khairoonnissa bai displayed remarkable talent for fundraising, and organizing various events such as fun fairs, charity walks, swims, and cycling marathons. She mobilized support from the community, engaging expatriate women, the mayor, and volunteers in donations and fundraising activities.
Her innovative "Bring, Buy, and Sell" events, where individuals contributed plants, cookies, tea, and snacks for sale, provided crucial funds for Red Cross initiatives. Khairoonnissa bai's unwavering dedication and creative approach significantly bolstered the organization's ability to fulfill its humanitarian mission. While her commitment to the Red Cross was unparalleled, it is essential to acknowledge her pivotal role as Chairlady of the Zaynabiya Society for many years. Throughout her tenure, she introduced innovative ideas that continue to enrich the Zaynabiya Society's mission to this day. Khairoonnissa bai’s compassionate spirit and unwavering dedication endeared her to countless friends, all of whom will fondly remember her presence and invaluable guidance. She was not only a source of comfort but also an inspiration to all fortunate enough to have known her. She embodied the belief that one's true worth is measured by the kindness and generosity they extend, virtues she exemplified abundantly throughout her lifetime. In every facet of her life, Khairoonnissa bai epitomized the essence of service and compassion, leaving behind a legacy that will impact future generations.
Death
On March 13, 2024, Khairoonnissa bai departed from this transient world for her heavenly abode, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of service. Her contributions remain cherished, and her unwavering dedication serves as a perpetual source of inspiration.
